  1. EBA roundtable with Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) initiatives – 25 October 2018 (Invitation-only event)

    The EBA has held a roundtable event with a number of API initiatives and hubs that are known to be developing API standards and technical specifications. This roundtable took place in the context of the EBA ‘s supervisory work on the industry preparedness to the application of the EBA's Technical Standards on strong customer authentication and common and secure communication (EBA-RTS-2017-02), under the revised EU Payment Services Directive (PSD2), and in particular the development of API platforms for the purpose of sharing payment account customer data with account information service providers (AISPs), payment initiation service providers (PISPs) and card-based payment instrument issuers (CBPIIs). The roundtable aimed at gaining a better understanding of the variety of initiatives, including those developing standards and technical specifications with a view to have uniform standards in the EU and those playing the role of a hub to support the implementation of APIs by account servicing payment service providers (ASPSPs) and their interconnection with AISPs, PISPs and CBPIIs with a view to reduce implementation costs for ASPSPs, facilitate implementation and bring a degree of uniformity. The roundtable also aimed to at understanding the role these initiatives are playing and can play in the regulatory framework.

  2. EBA supervisory workshop on European initiatives for Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) European initiatives under PSD2 – 17 October 2018 (Invitation-only event)

    The EBA held a supervisory workshop on APIs in the context of industry preparedness to the application of the EBA's Technical Standards on strong customer authentication and common and secure communication (EBA-RTS-2017-02) under the revised EU Payment Services Directive (PSD2). One of the objectives of the PSD2 is to enhance innovation and competition in the EU payments market, by establishing two new types of services: account information services (AIS) and payment initiation services (PIS). The workshop was addressed to supervisory authorities with a remit for payment services and was aimed at facilitating supervisory convergence during the period leading up to the application date of the RTS in September 2019. A range of API initiatives and hubs supporting the API platforms were invited to present their development of technical specifications for the purpose of sharing payment account customer data with AIS providers, PIS providers and card-based payment instrument issuers.

  3. EBA workshop on outsourcing to Cloud Service Providers – 17 October 2018

    Following on from the publication of the EBA Recommendations on Outsourcing to the Cloud in December 2017, this one day workshop will bring together key stakeholders to discuss the benefits and challenges brought about in implementing the Recommendations for using cloud in financial services. This workshop is for the benefit of competent authorities, cloud service providers and financial institutions (no press allowed) and will be structured around 3 panel discussions with audience participation encouraged.You can find the agenda here.   4. EBA webinar on the impact of FinTech on incumbent credit institutions' business models – 11 October 2018 (10:30-12:00 BST)

    As part of its FinTech Knowledge Hub activities, the EBA will be hosting this webinar to present the key findings and observations of the first product of its FinTech Roadmap – the thematic report on the impact of FinTech on incumbent credit institutions' business models.   5. EBA supervisory workshop on APIs - 11 September (Invite-only event)

    The EBA has held a supervisory workshop on APIs in the context of industry preparedness to the application of the Delegated Regulation on strong customer authentication and common and secure communication. This workshop included
    demonstrations from a number of European banks of their API platforms for the purpose of sharing payment account customer data with account information service providers, payment initiation service providers and card-based payment instrument issuers. This workshop was aimed at supervisors of competent authorities with payment and PSD2 expertise.

  6. Industry roundtable on regulatory sandboxes and innovation hubs - Monday 3 September 2018

    As set out in the EBA's FinTech Roadmap, the EBA is carrying out a comparative assessment of regulatory sandboxes, innovation hubs and other schemes in the Member States with a view to identifying best practices in their design and operation.  
    The EBA is keen to gain insights from financial institutions, other FinTech firms and technology providers on the operation of existing schemes and invites registrations for an industry roundtable at the EBA's premises on Monday 3 September (2-4pm).
    The roundtable will involve a semi-structured discussion on key issues such as scope, entry and exit criteria, transparency, cross-border cooperation, and other aspects to help facilitate the scaling-up of financial innovations across the EU.
    The registration deadline is Friday 10 August. Due to the anticipated interest in this roundtable, please register a maximum of two attendees per firm.
     
  7. EBA roundtable with account information and payment initiation service providers under PSD2– 25 July (Invitation-only event)

    The EBA has held a roundtable event with a number of account information and payment initiation service providers that have recently been authorised, or are currently undergoing authorisation, under the PSD2 in one of the EU Member States. This roundtable took place in the context of the EBA supervisory work on the industry preparedness to the application of the EBA's Technical Standards on strong customer authentication and common and secure communication (EBA-RTS-2017-02) under the revised EU Payment Services Directive (PSD2). The event focussed on the development of API platforms for the purpose of sharing payment account customer data with account information service providers, payment initiation service providers and card-based payment instrument issuers. The roundtable aimed to gain a better understanding of the variety of account information and payment initiation service providers within the EU as well as the way in which they currently operate, for those who already provide services, the issues they are currently facing, and their preparedness for the technical standards.
